Bye Bye Cold

Well it has been a ridiculously cold past few weeks for C. Texas. It put a big damper on the workouts, specifically because I hate working out indoors. It has warmed up the last two days though and I got in a good bike ride yesterday and a swim today.

Work continues to go well. We had to cancel our trip to LA for later this month because we have too much to do. We've seen a steady stream of opportunities come in which we hope will continue. We put a letter of intent in on a great office space and should hear back mid next-week. We are wanting to do an 18-month lease but the owner only wants a 9-month as they have a tenant that wants to take over the space plus some more in 9 months. That is too short of a time period for us so we're hoping they consider the 18. Its about 1200 SF in a really nice building. It is a little south of downtown which will take 10-15 minutes off of the commute while still being very close to most of our clients. Here is a pic of the outside of the bldg...

On a sour note, I have dental surgery tomorrow. I'm having a post put in where I had my tooth extracted - not looking forward to it!!!

New Client, Sore Butt

Fortunately, only one of the items in the title is work related. We are working with Springbox on a large Dell project that kicked off this week. We are doing some technical consulting, helping them configure their installation of Salesforce.com for one of their business units. It will last most of the first quarter and will definitely keep us busy. Should be a fun project.

The sore butt comes in from a combination of a long bike ride and a kettleball workout that kicked my a@#! I'm trying to keep up with Heather on the workout front as we get ready for the Capital 10k. I haven't seen her this motivated on the fitness front in a long time so I'm enjoying the friendly competition to see who can get in shape first.

I'm loving the weather this time of year. In the 40s in the morning and then the 50s/60s during the day - trying to enjoy it while it lasts. It makes working out a lot more fun when it isn't 95 and humid as hell.

So far so good!

Well, I'm two weeks into the new job and things are going well. We've closed a contract and one should be signed as early as Monday. The first one is with Zynx Health out of LA. Cy took over a quick turn project for them about a month ago when a competitor of ours wasn't performing to expectation. We've parlayed that into a larger project and it looks like there could be more to come in the March timeframe. The client is really good to work with and it is sizable enough to take some of the financial pressure off.

The contract we hope to sign next week is with Dell via Springbox. Springbox is the lead design firm on the job and Adaptdev will be performing the technical duties. This is going to be a huge project for us and hopefully opens up some more doors at Dell.

We met with a commercial real estate firm on Friday and they are doing a survey of properties for us. We should have 20-30 spaces to review in about a week and a half. We are trying to do a sub-lease for 1-2 years for maximum flexibility. An expected move-in date is likely March or April 1. It is exciting looking for some space of our own, I can't imagine what it will feel like when we actually move in.

I've been hard at work on new copy for our website. I should have it done by tomorrow and then we'll be making the site changes over the next week or so. We aren't doing anything with the look and feel yet, but plan on revising that late in Q1. As soon as the copy is done we're going to send out a newsletter announcing my hiring and then hiring of Drake, or developer. Hopefully this will help get our name out there!

On the home front it was a quiet week workout wise. I got in one strength workout and ran today. The weather has been bad and I had a lot of work commitments so it wasn't the best of weeks. Heather and I signed up for the Capital 10k in March which should re-ignite the desire to workout.

Aidan had a basketball game Sat but you could tell he wasn't himself - he even took himself out of the game for the last quarter. We come to find out he was playing with a fever. He came home and took a nap but is still fighting it yet today. Hopefully he will be feeling better by Tues when he goes back to school.

Bring it on!

Well, its a new year and there is a lot going on. First off, I've started a new job - that is to say, I've started my own business with a long-time friend and colleague of mine, Cy Huckaba. Cy started Adaptdev a little over a year ago with good success. I've joined him as Partner and COO to help take it to the next level. I can't wait for the challenge that this presents and to fulfill a long-time dream of taking the leap to 'entrepreneur'. I plan on providing weekly updates on how the business is going and if I'm keeping my sanity.
In addition, I've also promised myself that this is the year that I'm actually going to complete a triathlon. I'm setting my sites low, only hoping to complete a Sprint distance with the outside chance of an Olympic distance. If my chronic back and knee problems stay at bay I'm hoping to finally get back into shape. You can keep track of my progress in my Daily Mile widget - feel free to call me out if I'm slacking.
Here is wishing you and yours a healthy and happy 2011!
